Fort Lauderdale literally stands on the water, and the first thing you'll see from the window of the airplane is hundreds of channels flowing between each street.

Unfortunately, as it turned out, there are not many attractions in Fort Lauderdale. There is nothing special to see except the beaches. However, there are several options than you can do in this place:

Rent a car

To start with, you need a car to save time and make a route round the city on your own. You can take it directly in car rental in Fort Lauderdale airport or directly in the city. It is very convenient that in Florida, you do not need international rights. The rental day costs about 50 USD, including insurance and a tank of gasoline. For hiring, you must have a passport with a visa, a bankcard and your current rights.

Nature lovers are advised to pay attention to the main bird of the state of Florida – the flamingo – in the botanical gardens of the Flamingo Gardens and Wray Botanical Collection.

Butterfly World is the most beautiful park of the planet. This park is situated in the city of Coconut Creek and you can get there by a car from car rental. When you just go into the park, you get to the first department with butterflies. An amazing impression as if you are in a fairy tale. Around there are flowers, music and butterflies – it is impossible to take your eyes off! After there are branches with birds, and then a hall with reptiles and shelves on which various insects are settled.

Arrange yourself a cultural rest

For lovers of culture in Fort Lauderdale there are several museums. It is worth seeing the Museum of Art and the Museum of Discovery and Science.

Fans of car history will like the Antique Car Museum – an incredibly interesting car show since Packard's 1900 mark, also you can see accessories for cars and old items such as lighters, gas stations, ashtrays, lamps, magazines, photos and much more.

Walk along the tourist streets

In Fort Lauderdale, there are two tourist streets, which are visited by absolutely all tourists: Boulevard Las Olas and an embankment Riverwalk. Both streets are radically different. The Boulevard Las Olas is colorful, bright, and full of fun, music and fuss. A Riverwalk is a quiet oasis and cozy place. When the soul requires a holiday, it is necessary to go to Las Olas – there are many restaurants, galleries, shops and bars, and at night everything shines with bright lights. Riverwalk passes perfectly for a walk and rest after visiting the numerous museums nearby. Here you can go along the river canal, admiring luxurious yachts and boats passing by.

  1. Before you book online, do an Internet search for coupon or promotion codes to put into the booking engine of your car rental company’s site. Last time I tried this one and was happy with the service. Just type the name of the company followed by “coupon code” into the search field and you’ll often find special promotion codes that could save you anywhere from 5 to 20 percent off the cost of your rental.
